Anti-Gay Bible Abuse
You all know of the widespread disdain—or worse—by evangelical “Christians” of anyone they can label as gay. Although this behavior plainly has nothing to do with religion, it is claimed to be based on six “clobber passages” from the Bible. This presentation is a purely linguistic look at those passages, referring to their earliest texts available … as well as an ignored story that suggests that Christ’s view on the subject may have been quite different.
The presentation is another look at the subject of Bill Isler’s MRS presentation ten years ago that was expanded into the website Bible Abuse Directed at Homosexuals, tying in critical linguistic background.
Roughly half of Bill’s master’s degree was in purely linguistics courses. He has not been degraded in his faith by Steven L. Anderson, Franklin Graham, or Roger Jimenez.
