Gay Pornography and the Space of Gay History
This presentation will look at how the media has interacted with gay history, specifically involving the period from the late sixties to the present. In this time we have moved from film to video to digital technologies/the internet.
Dr. Richard Cante, associate professor of Media and Technology Studies in the Communication Studies Department at UNC-CH, is the new Director of the Program in Sexuality Studies. After his BA at Northwestern, MA at UNC-CH, and PhD at USC (that’s the California one), his research has dealt with the relationship between sexuality and the media, health, and politics. He has looked particularly at the relationship between sexuality and the media in the US since the late 1960s; he is also currently looking at the cultural re-mapping of relations between ethics, aesthetics and politics since the mid-1990s.
