LGBT History of Raleigh

The Mary Renault Society will salute Pride Month 2025 by having a program about LGBT Raleigh History. A special City panel recently did a historical inventory of LGBT places.

City staff will present that report to us at the June meeting. We can mentally revisit some of the bars, shops, and other places where we went in search of . . . well, maybe just in search of our young identities. We may also find out about places we never knew existed in Raleigh.
For this month only, MRS will meet at a different day and time. (This is because of scheduling issues with Pride Month.) Instead of the 4th Sunday of the month, we will meet Tuesday, June 24, at 4 pm. The presentation will be at 5 pm, and our usual potluck will be after that. The meeting will at the Community United Church of Christ at 814 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, the corner of Dixie Trail and Wade Avenue. You enter the parking lot from Dixie Trail. We’ll be in the Fellowship Hall.
We will meet jointly with the Carolina Aging Alliance. Sharon Kilpatrick, the Alliance’s Triangle Regional Director, spoke to MRS in March about her organization. Once called SAGE Raleigh/Central Carolina, the Alliance is a nonprofit that advocates and provides services for LGBT persons 50 and older.
The MRS Program Planning Committee is planning to affiliate MRS with the Carolina Aging Alliance as a way to enhance our online communications and give our members more opportunities for doing things with other LGBT people. This affiliation will NOT mean the end of MRS as an organization or the end of the monthly MRS meetings on Sunday. We will also keep our website, dues system, and planning process. Questions or comments about the affiliation are welcome. Send any you have to Charlie Kronberg at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Please RSVP to let our host know you are attending and what you plan to bring to add to our dinner.
