Informal Music Night
Jim Laing has presented several times in the past, demonstrating music technology, and discussing various styles/genres of music with demos played on the organ and keyboards. The MRS event on the evening of March 24 will be at Jim’s home in North Raleigh. For this get-together, rather than a “demo/talk,” we’ll have an informal night of music…. Jim will play some songs, perhaps get the group singing, etc. If people are interested, some demos of how he puts his keyboard performances together might be done. He’ll take any questions about his keyboard ‘rig’ (equipment). He’ll take requests from his ~1300 song list…. Yes, singing along is encouraged!
Jim Laing’s entrance into the music world began when he got private organ lessons as a young boy. These evolved into playing piano and electronic keyboards. He began playing in bands in high school and through college, and right up to the present day. Jim’s broad musical repertoire includes classic rock, musicals, jazz, classical, “Great American Songbook” tunes, as well as a bit of country and R&B. The presentation will not include a Beethoven sing-along.
